Giggs hopes for Rooney return

Ryan Giggs is optimistic that Wayne Rooney will return from injury in time for United’s final home game of the season against Hull on Tuesday.

The Reds striker - who has scored 19 goals in 40 appearances this term - missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland due to a groin strain and a slight bug, prompting fears that he might not play against this season with just two fixtures left to fulfill.

However, when speaking to the media after the match, Giggs gave a short but positive update on Rooney’s health and fitness: “I hope he will play again this season, we will keep monitoring him and see how he is for Tuesday. Hopefully he will be back.”

The last home match of the season is always an important one for fans and United's interim manager is determined to finish a difficult season on a positive note. Giggs also wants club captain Nemanja Vidic to enjoy his final outing at Old Trafford ahead of his free transfer to Inter Milan in the summer.

“It is the last home game and obviously you want a positive result," said Ryan. "Vida has been a brilliant player over the years, he is probably the greatest defender I have ever played with and I have played with some good ones. He is right up there, he is a brilliant player and obviously he will be sorely missed.”
